Carmen Smith
Carmen Smith is a visual artist based in South Florida. She is an Associate Artist at the Bakehouse Art Complex in Miami. Originally from St. Augustine, Florida, she moved to Miami in 2008 after she studied fine art and design in Virginia. She has a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Richmond, VA, where she was awarded the Academic and Creative Excellence Award and became interested in the psychological effects of architecture and design.
She is best known for her intensely colorful paintings of simplified urban architectural scenes around the greater Miami area. She was featured at Spectrum Miami, Miami Art Week in Miami, Florida, November 30-December 4, 2016 during Art Basel. She is also featured in several articles including Christie Galeano’s “Four Broward Based Artists Will Showcase Their Work at Art Basel,” in Gold Coast Magazine, December 2017. More recently, the Miami Herald featured her in a piece titled “The. Next Big Thing”.
