Wakeah Jhane was born in Oklahoma. She is a prolific artist known for her Native art - particularly ledger art. A Comanche, Kiowa, Cherokee and Blackfeet artist she has pieces in both the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian and in the permanent collection of the Whitney Museum in New York City. One of those limited pieces is in this collection. She is a celebrated artist with a skill for colorful, thoughtful creations. Her most recent work was featured in the Native Americen Art Magazine - issue 049 - a stunning feat.
In November 2023, Wakeah Jhane was selected by Yahoo to create their specialized logo to celebrate Native American Heritage Month for November 2023 - a noteworthy accomplishment.
In August 2023, one of her ledger works was selected as the second place art work for the ledger art category for the Santa Fe Marketplace of the American Indian juried art competition.
Her original piece - “Two Suns” - featured here was added to this collection in early 2023. It features gold accents and gauche paper. It highlights the strength of women in times past, present, and future.
